Upon retirement from the corporate world, I returned to oil painting after a twenty-year hiatus and found that I had a whole world of expression waiting to flow from me. I now had the time to really see the beauty of nature around me and to paint those scenes which really appealed to me. The countryside of New England with its autumn colors, old barns, and seascapes are scenes which have been part of my life. They are compositions just waiting to be portrayed on my canvas. The peacefulness of these scenes brings me a serenity in my painting process. Recently, I have studied still life painting which has been beneficial in setting up compositions in both plein air and still life paintings.
Starting a new painting is exciting for me and I enjoy developing it and bringing it to a finished state. As an organized person, I have had to learn to loosen up and trust my brushstrokes to tell the story rather than include every detail. I am inspired by other artists who paint loosely as I work at relaxing my style.
My art is now a part of who I am and I am especially gratified when my work is recognized with an award. It tells me that I have succeeded in visually connecting with the viewer.
My art education is basically through classes and workshops with local accomplished artists. I am a member of, and have received awards from, Richter Art Association, Easton Arts Council, and Kent Art Association. I am also a member of the Society for Creative Arts of Newtown, and Candlewood League of Artists. My paintings are displayed in the Barn Gallery of New Fairfield, CT, at Art and Frame of Newtown, CT and in many local juried and non-juried art shows.
